From fashion to literature, here are five products to covet, to acquire, and to love.

Harly Jae Aura Pants

Breathable, airy, and flattering, the Aura Pants from slow fashion house Harly Jae are an easy summer staple. Made with a blend of organic cotton and organic linen, they feature a stretchy waist and a breezy wide leg. Like all garments from this Vancouver brand, the Aura Pants are made locally in small batches; the Natural colour is a great option, because it’ll go with everything else in your closet.

Sapsucker The Lemon One

Sapsucker has arrived just in time for summer picnics, because there’s nothing better than a cold drink on a hot day. This new brand of sparkling tree water is organic, plant-based, full of nutrients, and sustainably sourced in Canada. The lemon flavour is a sure winner; naturally sweetened, it has just a hint of citrus for a crisp, light, refreshing sip (lime is pretty great, too). La Croix fans, take note.

“The Vegetarian” by Han Kang

Awarded the Man Booker International Prize in 2016 and called one of the best books of the year by The New York Times Book Review, The Vegetarian is a haunting novel about power and madness. Written by South Korean author Han Kang, it tells the story of a woman named Yeong-hye, who turns vegetarian as a result of harrowing recurring nightmares. Written in three breathless parts, the book will have readers engulfed from the first page. Translated to English from Korean by Deborah Smith, the book is a vivid testament to Kang’s masterful storytelling.

Fable dinnerware

Is it just us or do pretty ceramics actually make food taste better? The sleek and sturdy dishes from Fable instantly upgrade any meal, taking it from boring to beautiful. Designed in Vancouver and crafted by artisans in Portugal, these plates and bowls have soft organic edges and are made from recycled clay. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner just got a little more fun.

Beaucoup Bakery Kouign Flan

Vancouverites can (and should) indulge in Beaucoup Bakery’s new creation: the kouign flan. Bringing together two delicious things—the buttery pastry of a kouign amann and a rich, flan-like vanilla custard encased in caramelized sugar—this drool-worthy treat is flaky, creamy, and decadent. A perfect way to seize the day.
