The spaces that you inhabit throughout your day have such a profound influence on your state of mind. Whether you’re fully aware of it or not, even little things like having a dirty stove or forgetting to make your bed can build up negative energy around you. This stagnant energy can have a huge impact on your mind and mood—it takes up mental space and can block and disrupt your creative flow. Scent also plays a huge role in how you perceive your surroundings, and certain aromas have properties that can help ground you or perk you up naturally.

Your space should be a refuge—somewhere you can let out a big sigh of relief and feel most comfortable. While cleaning up clutter is step one, there are other rituals you can practice to help promote good vibes.

Let the fresh air roll in

The most simple thing you can do to remove negative energy is open your windows. If anything is built up and stuck inside, give it a chance to escape. Circulating fresh air will also help you clear your lungs and take deeper breaths, which in turn increases your energy and vitality. If your space is east-facing, open your blinds and let the sunlight pour in as well.

Clean your entrances

Negative energy enters your home the same way you do. Cleaning your doorknobs, windows, and patio doors is a simple way to make sure no bad energy is hanging around. We like making a gentle homemade cleaner that combines 20 drops of Lemon Essential Oil, 10 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil, 5 drops of Geranium Essential Oil, 1 cup of water, and 1/4 cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle. Give points of entry a solid wipe, and naturally disinfect them while you’re at it.

Burn palo santo

Palo santo (translated from Spanish to “holy wood”) has proven itself relevant in both ancient and modern rituals. The burning of palo santo wood is used for purification and protection, which is why it’s so great for cleansing spaces. We love the ritual of lighting a palo santo stick and waving it around—it’s very freeing, and the aroma is amazing. Make sure to wave it in closets and any other cluttered spaces.

Diffuse bright, uplifting essential oils

It’s a no-brainer that scent affects your mood. Citrus oils in particular are known to promote positive energy and lift your spirits. Whenever we’re in need of an energy overhaul and want something super fresh and clean-smelling, we diffuse Peppermint and Sweet Orange essential oils. This combination instantly leaves us feeling more awake, and smells like we just cleaned the whole house. If you’re looking for something to diffuse before bed, we suggest Lavender and Frankincense to help calm the senses and leave you feeling grounded. Lastly, our Ceremony Essential Oil Blend is smoky and light, boasting Palo Santo, Cedarwood, and Clary Sage oils for a truly cleansing aroma.

Sprinkle salt in the corners of your house

A lot of negative energy can accumulate in the corners of your spaces. Salt has been used for centuries to cleanse and absorb negative energy, and there are a few ways you can go about using it. First, you can place salt in little bowls around your space. If you like the idea of going a bit deeper, you can sprinkle salt on the floor, leave it for a day or two, then vacuum it up. Lastly, if you want a more long-term solution for creating good vibes, you can purchase a Himalayan salt lamp.

Cleansing feels good. Trust us.
